Purpose: Demonstrates conservation of energy.
Description: A spring with a metal shaft attached to it is compressed. A pin (tied to the apparatus for safety reasons) is placed between the shaft and the bob of a pendulum. When the spring is release, it causes the pendulum to swing at a large angle before the bob is caught by a ratchet system.
