Balls on Rails

Reference: M83
Category: Mechanics
Purpose: Demonstrates the conservation of momentum and kinetic energy in elastic collisions.
Description: Elastic collisions of 2.5 cm diameter steel balls rolling on rails. This is another version of Newton ’s cradle, but it is somewhat complicated by the presence of rotational energy, which is not immediately cancelled out on collision (due to slipping or skidding).
