Category: Electromagnetism
Purpose: Demonstrates the Curie point.
Description: A horseshoe magnet lies on a wooden stand. Nickel bars are suspended in front of the poles of the magnet. A Bunsen burner with narrow jet flame heats the nickel rod until it falls away from magnet when its temperature rises above the Curie point. Out of the flame it cools down again and is once again attracted by the magnet. The process repeats indefinitely.
