Angular Momentum

Reference: M108
Category: Mechanics
Purpose: Demonstrates various rotational principles.
Description: This demonstration consists of a rotating stool, a bicycle wheel gyroscope, two masses and a wooden box. A number of demonstrations are possible: 1. Sit on the rotating stool holding the masses at arms length and draw them in. 2. Sit on the stool holding the masses. Show that the stool can be set rotating by holding the masses out in front and then throwing them sideways (both the same way), or by waving them in a circle above your head. 3. Sit on the stool holding a spinning gyroscope. Invert the axis of the gyroscope and show that this causes the stool to start rotating.
