Purpose:
Description: Two flasks joined neck-to-neck, the lower with a little water in it. Close taps A and B and open C to pump. Evacuate upper flask. Close tap C. Open B, and air in lower flask expands, causing super-saturation, and a slight condensation (cloud), which shows up by scattered light. Close tap B, and open A, holding a lighted match next to inlet. Close A, open C to pump and repeat. Dense cloud, due to presence of nuclei provided by the smoke particle from the match. (Pump U should be used, not pump V).
