Varying Tension in String

Reference: M60
Category: Mechanics
Purpose: Demonstrates varying tension due to centripetal acceleration.
Description: The tension in a string varies as the centripetal acceleration of a bob at the end varies. If masses of 2lb and 1kg (2.2 lb) are used, this principal can be used to make the lighter mass lift the heavier one. When static, the 1kg naturally rests on the bottom; but if the 2lb is set swinging fairly vigorously, the 1kg mass is lifted up and oscillates up and down.
